Honestly for singleplayer I would rather the GOG edition on EDuke32 and find the addons elsewhere (the GRP files can be launched in there and the original addon disc files can be turned into GRP files, FYI). The thing uses objectively outdated software (actually the Win version is on a very very old version of EDuke32, technically) because it's a ported XBOX version.
Dat improved multiplayer though, I've always said that EDuke32 is really bad on that front. It could be worth it just for that improvement because it is actually a pretty good deal for a ten given the rarity of the addons.

I like Steam but for this I'll stick with my GoG version.
Hopefully the expansions might appear on GoG someday.

GOG.com should not have to sell the Megaton Edition themselves, but they can sell all the Sunstorm expansions individually and unaltered. There's one explansion which the Megaton left out, and that's Xtreme Duke.

Actually there's lots of expansions they left out, but they're just extremely old map collections collected from the Internet. I don't really think GOG can get into the expansions right now because of rights. Not sure if they ever will.

sheridanm962: I just got back from Duke4.net Forums and I have to say: Don't get this version of Duke3D.
I'll explain: The Expansions are fine and all but the game itself is kindof broken.
Here's why....
...
Basically: Stick to the GoG version for now until they fix these issues (Lets hope they fix that before the multiplayer comes in).
You could always buy it for the data files and just run it with eduke.exe. Then you get the game with all expansions and the best source port around. I'll explain: The Expansions are fine and all but the game itself is kindof broken.

blackmantis: Is it not just the same game run in dosbox? Or is it some strange winport?
It is a strange winport. Namely, Jonof's. But it doesn't stop you from using eduke with it as I mention above. artigkar: Hmm, it also seems that the expansions are only for the OpenGL version?
No, they're the normal .grp and .con files which you can use in any Duke port .exe; either the native duke3d.exe or any other port. ~~~
Personally, I just made a bunch of batch files and copied the Addons DIR and DUKE3D.GRP to my Eduke32 DIR and made a bunch of batch files. Like this :
Atomic Edition :
eduke32
Carribean.bat :
eduke32 /gaddonsvacation.grp
DC.bat :
eduke32 /gaddonsdukedc.grp
Nwinter.bat
eduke32 /xaddonsnwinter.con /gaddonsnwinter.grp
I never use their shitty substandard port. There's absolutely no reason to.

Duke 3d Megaton Patch Download Pc
The Megaton Edition on Steam uses a modified version of JonoF's port. They said they were planning to release further updates to it in the future for multiplayer and possibly other addons. What artigkar was referring to was the Megaton Edition on Steam, for which you can only run the expansions in the port and not in DOSBox. There is of course nothing stopping you from extracting the files to run in DOSBox or in any port as you say, but natively from the Steam download the expansions are only for the engine port itself.
I had a look at the Steam files myself and noticed that there is a nwdes.con. Shouldn't this be named nwdefs.con? I know the nwinter.con has a line to include nwdefs.con, but that file isn't present. Is it a filename error with the Steam version?

I said this above. Nothing is stopping you from using what exists currently. You don't have to wait until Valve gets on it. korell: What artigkar was referring to was the Megaton Edition on Steam, for which you can only run the expansions in the port and not in DOSBox. Sadly true. You'd have to go find full copies somewhere that contain the rest of the files needed to run them under DosBOX; namely gamer.exe etc. and you may need a patch from here. korell: I had a look at the Steam files myself and noticed that there is a nwdes.con. I thought the same, but no. nwinter.con includes files within the .grp itself apparently. Leave it alone, it's fine. It works in eduke32.Duke 3d Megaton Edition

Right, this just because very relevant because of the current Steam flash sale - I think I'll grab the Steam version for the expansions but use them with the GOG version and eDuke - that's a summery of the advice here, right?
Cheers
*edit* Oh nos but I just noticed the native Steam version has cheevs, oh this makes it a tough choice again! (no, it really does, sadly)

This is my favourite topic
Duke Nukem seriesDuke Nukem 3D marked a major shift in the gameplay of the years, moving from a 2D platform action genre found in the first two games to a 3D first-person shooter. Duke Nukem 3D, along with first-person shooters such as Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, represents the dawn of the first person shooter genre and are considered classics today.
In addition to being immensely popular with gamers, Duke Nukem 3D was critically acclaimed as well for its level design, gameplay, and graphics.
Set in the early 21st century, players assume the role of Duke Nukem as they try to fight back an alien invasion. The game consists of a number of levels featuring indoor and outdoor environments that can be completed in a non-linear format. Players guide Duke Nukem through these environments fighting alien enemies as they try to achieve various objectives.
The environments and levels in Duke Nukem 3D are both destructible and interactive. Players will be able to interact with various inanimate objects found in the game such as lights, water, non-player characters and more.
Duke Nukem 3D Game Modes
Duke Nukem 3D features both a single-player campaign and a multiplayer mode.
The single-player mode revolves around the levels and missions previously mentioned and contains a semi-humorous storyline containing many references to popular films at the time of its release. There are also cameos (as dead bodies) of popular movie characters such as Indiana Jones, Luke Skywalker, and Snake Plissken to name a few.
Duke Nukem 3D also features a multiplayer game mode. Multiplayer gaming was in its infancy when Duke Nukem 3D was first released, but players were able to connect via modem, LAN or serial cables. There was also multiplayer support over early gaming networks such as TEN. The multiplayer games took place on the same levels/environments found in the single-player story campaign.
Duke Nukem 3D Versions
Duke Nukem 3D was originally released for MS-DOS. Since it's release it has been ported to nearly every major console system and operating system. This includes Windows XP, 7, and 8. Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 & 4 as well as older Nintendo and Sega systems and mobile.
The Duke Nukem 3D source code was released to the general public in 2003 which has led to a number of custom PC ports that keep the same graphics and gameplay while offering some enhancements. These include source ports for EDuke32, JFDuke3D, nDuke, and many others. Some of these source ports also include multiplayer capability.
Availability of Duke Nukem 3D
While the source code is available for free and many ports the original Duke Nuke 3D has never been released as freeware. In addition, many of the source ports require specific files from the original game files.
Duke Nukem 3D Download Links
While the game has not been released as freeware there are a number of third party websites that offer the source port downloads as well as the original game downloads. Older versions of the game would require an MS-DOS emulator such as DOSBOX.
